Annie and Ranger
Join us in congratulating Annie, SCDOA’s latest service dog recipient. Ranger, the actual puppy actor for the film Treasure Buddies (the sequel to Air Bud), will bring important skills to their newly formed team. He’s four-and-a-half months old and currently training to be Annie’s service companion dog to help with anxiety and autusm. Check back for updates on Annie and Ranger’s progress.

Service Companion Dogs of America (SCDOA) is a non-profit, 501(c)(3) organization created to help individuals who could benefit from the assistance of a Service Dog. We provide highly trained dogs, free of charge, as well as guidance and education to the recipient in how to utilize and interact with the dog. We also provide free educational programs to the general public in order to promote awareness of the importance and responsibilities associated with Service Dogs.

SCDOA was founded by a dedicated group of professionals within the canine industry, spanning a wide range of knowledge bases and with a passion for the cause of those in need of a well trained Service Dog. While there are currently several similar organizations already in existence, they are unable to meet the demands of a rapidly growing population in need of these special canine companions. As a matter of fact, it's not unusual for qualified individuals to wait up to six years to receive a properly trained Service Dog.

There's an enormous investment of time and resources involved in the training of each dog and, even at that, many dogs are not capable of ultimately fulfilling the role of a Service Dog due to health or personality issues. Service Dogs need great strength of mind and body in order to succeed. A Service Dog should never be categorized as a pet. A service dog is a very specialized animal that is capable of giving a handicapped person independence they would not have realized otherwise. Service Dogs and recipients bond at a very deep level and the dog learns to interpret every nuance of its partner. Having the dog helps build confidence and allows the individual to do things they never would have dreamed of before. Service Companion Dogs of America is dedicated to providing all necessary training required for not only the service dog, but the recepient as well, to insure a healthy and happy team that will enhance the lives of all those touched by these wonderful relationships.
